Apprentice Gethin is commended at national awards

Congratulations to our apprentice Gethin Elsam who was Highly Commended in one of the UK’s top housing awards.

Gethin, who joined Cambria Maintenance Services in 2019, was one of eight finalists in the Apprentice of the Year category at the Housing Heroes Awards 2021.

Held on 7 September at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, the awards celebrate the unsung heroes of the housing sector in the UK.

“Gethin has made a huge difference to Cambria Maintenance Services and the wider Wales & West Housing Group.”

Peter Jackson, Managing Director of Cambria Maintenance Services

Since joining Cambria’s Apprenticeship Programme, Gethin has become part of a team of more than 180 staff, including 28 apprentices, who carry out repairs and kitchen and bathroom refurbishments on WWH’s 12,000 homes across Wales. He has worked hard and has impressed his colleagues and managers.

Peter Jackson, Managing Director of Cambria Maintenance Services, said: “We are all so proud of Gethin.

“When he first joined us, Gethin was worried that his dyslexia may restrict him from having a career in building maintenance or construction. But his determination, hard work and willingness to learn has paid off. He has made a huge difference to Cambria Maintenance Services and the wider Wales & West Housing Group.

“Residents always comment on Gethin’s politeness and praise his work. He has a bright future ahead and we are pleased to play a part in his career development.”

Gethin said: “I feel so lucky to have an apprenticeship with Cambria Maintenance Services. I thought my dyslexia might hold me back, but my managers at Cambria are so supportive. I feel part of a great team. By going to college and working alongside professionals I have learnt so much and have so much more to learn. I love my work with Cambria.”
